On March 17, 2025, Her Excellency Tuot Panha, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, accompanied a delegation led by His Excellency Chea Somethy, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation, in a courtesy meeting with His Excellency David Lammy, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London.
The discussion between both parties focused on the child protection framework to improve alternative care, reduce the number of institutions, reduce the number of children living in care institutions, and promote family-based care for children in the community.
His Excellency Minister Chea Somethy emphasized that under the wise leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Cambodian government has implemented various laws, policies, and national action plans for child protection including the improvement of alternative care. His Excellency David Lammy congratulated and appreciated the achievements of the Cambodian government in implementing the alternative care program for children within families.
